Numa evidently won many bets that he could lift a blacksmith anvil with one hand. According to his grandson Earl Clostio, Numa had straps that he would put around the anvil and put his arm through the straps and lift the anvil.

According to Earl Clostio, during his father’s younger days Numa Clostio worked as a blacksmith. He also did sideline jobs as an electrician and plumber. Numa taught his sons Leslie, Earl and Lloyd how to do this work and Earl used to do some of Numa’s sideline jobs with him. Earl also used to drive Numa whenever he could because Numa did not like to drive and did not learn to drive a car until late in life. Clinton Thomas Clostio met his great-grandfather Numa Clostio when Clinton was a young boy and Numa left him a watch that Mathurin had found in a wagon wheel track. As of September, 2003, Clinton Clostio still has the watch as a family heirloom.
